Fayetteville Soccer Club: Youth Academy
The FSC Academy Program is a youth development program for U8 - U10 boys and girls and will be the key to our programs on going success. Our program participates in the NCYSA Academy Programs.  The FSC Youth Academy program is designed for those players who desire advanced training from a professional staff.  The program will emphasize the development of players technically (skills), tactically (decision-making), physically (fitness) and psychologically (mental toughness).  The development of players in these areas will better prepare them for the next level of soccer.  FSC is committed to the development of our players love for the game and development as a player.

The Academy coaching staff is specially selected and trained to provide this introduction to select soccer in an environment conducive to Learning and having Fun!

The 2010-2011 FSC Youth Academy coaches are:

  • Aaron Wood
  • John Calahan
  • Gormondu Gorvoye
  • Isaac Rancour
  • Sidney Little

Academy Philosophy:
The Academy program is a sanctioned level of play through NCYSA and US Youth Soccer.   The main focus for this program is to provide a developmental training environment without the pressure of competing in a league where standings are kept and the measure of success is just winning.  Competition will be in the form of “festival” events scheduled by the coaches and Academy director.  One of the goals of the festivals is to have players at similar abilities play one another, scores are not recorded and players are encouraged to be creative.  It is also a goal of the FSC Academy to allow players to learn all positions of the game without the pressures of winning.

Tryouts:
The Youth Academy players are evaluated by the Youth Academy Director and staff coaches at “tryouts” held in May at the Jordan Soccer Complex.  The Youth Academy is for players that fall in the U8-U10 age level.  All Academy players will be required to register with the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) and with US Youth Soccer (USYS).

Season and Training:
The Youth Academy plays in both the fall and spring seasons.  If selected for the Youth Academy, the player is expected to play for BOTH the fall and spring seasons. The fall season begins in August and runs through December.  The spring season starts in January and ends in May.

Players will train in a “pool” format 2 days a week in a 90 minute session and be assigned to a team during each festival event.  Approximately 7-8 game days are scheduled each season.  Most events will allow players to play more than 1 game in a day.  Games are played at Jordan Soccer Complex, in Southern Pines, in Greensboro, in Raleigh, in Greenville, in New Bern and at Cape Fear.  The Youth Academy ends the season with a two day “festival”.  Players will play in at least ½ of each game.

Additional Information:

  • A player registered in the Youth Academy Program may not participate in a Challenge, Recreation or Classic Program.
  • Each player will receive two written evaluations per year from the Academy Director, one in the fall season and one in the spring season.
  • Matches will follow the USYS Modified Rules for small sided games.
  • There are NO published scores or standings in the Academy Program.
  • Ball size:  4
  • Game day maximum roster size:  12 players
  • Duration of match:  Two 25 minute halves with a 5 minute half-time.

Player Commitment:
A player’s commitment to the Academy Program means that the player understands the importance of training and skill development.  Once selected for the Youth Academy Program, players are expected to fulfill their commitment to themselves, to their team and to the FSC for the duration of the year.

Parental Commitment:
A player’s commitment to the Youth Academy Program with FSC can only be accomplished with Parental Commitment. Parental Commitment is essential to ensure that the Mission and Goals of FSC are met.

Parents are expected to fulfill their commitment to their son or daughter by:

  • Ensuring their preparation and attendance for all training and games
  • Providing positive reinforcement to all players, before, during, and after training sessions and games

Parents are expected to fulfill their commitment to FSC by:

  • Volunteering their time for FSC functions such as tournaments and ad hoc committees formed by FSC.
  • Supporting FSC’s fundraising efforts
  • Fulfilling financial obligations to FSC
  • Being positive representatives of FSC at all games and tournaments.
