Youth Academy

Academy Program
The FSC Academy Program is a youth development program for U7 - U11 boys and girls and is an excellent way to prepare players for the competitive soccer programs.  Focused completely on skill development and small sided play, it is ideal for the young player who is taking particular interest in the sport of soccer and appears to be ready for a higher level of training as well as increased expectations.  Players in the Youth Academy will receive advanced training from a professional staff.  The program will emphasize the development of players technically (skills), tactically (decision-making), physically (fitness) and psychologically (mental toughness).  The development of players in these areas will better prepare them for the next level of soccer.  FSC is committed to the development of our players love for the game and development as a player.

Age Group Pools, Expectations and Coaching
Like the Challenge and Classic Programs, the Academy Program expects increased commitment from its players in time and effort.  Players are trained by the FSC Academy coaching staff who are specifically selected and trained to provide this introduction to competitive soccer in an environment conducive to learning and having fun.  The Academy Program differs from Challenge and Classic soccer programs in that the players train as an age group pool.  The age group pool training allows the players to train and compete with different combinations of players, orchestrating competitive environments to benefit the growth and development of everyone involved.  The youth academy also play small sided matches (6v6 or 8v8) to allow the player the maximum touches on the ball during a game and thus increasing the player involvement in the game.  Scores and team standings are not recorded in the Youth Academy.

Joining a Team
Each May, players interested in the Academy Program must participate in an Academy Player Assessment.  This is not a "tryout" process resulting in a player being cut.  Rather, it is an opportunity for players, parents, and coaches to assess the suitability of the program to the player's stage of development and to determine if Academy placement is suitable.

Training
Academy players train twice a week for 1 1/2 hours per session with emphasis on technical and tactical skills.  The Youth Academy is a two season team.  The fall season is from August-November and the spring season is from January-May.  Players are expected to fulfill the commitment for BOTH seasons.

Games, Tournament and Travel
Academy games are played in a "play-a-round" format.  Home games are played at the Jordan Soccer Complex.  The teams will also travel to other local soccer associations (Wilson, Southern Pines, Greenville, Fuquay Varina, Sanford, New Bern and Wilmington) to play games.  Each academy team will play two games each play date. At the conclusion of the Academy season in the Fall and Spring, the Academy teams usually participate in the Academy Showcase.  The Academy Showcase is a festival that all of the Academy teams across NC participate in.  The Academy Showcase does require overnight lodging.  Academy teams may also participate in tournaments.

Fees
The Academy Fees will be posted each season.  Players and their families are responsible for their own uniforms, travel costs and tournament costs.
