Fayetteville Soccer Club: Classic

The Fayetteville Soccer Club offers a well rounded experience in competitive soccer for boys and girls.  Classic soccer is the highest level of competitive youth soccer in North Carolina. Classic soccer is for skilled and motivated players who desire an increased level of competition from that offered in the recreation/challenge program. Classic soccer provides the highest level of coaching, competition, and player development.  The Classic division is open to players 11 to 18 years old.  Classic teams compete against other Classic teams from leagues and clubs throughout North Carolina during the regular season.  NCYSA competing leagues are divided into Premier, 1st Division, and 2nd Division.  The Classic season culminates with the NCYSA/USYS State Cup and President’s Cup for ages U13-U18.

Competitive Tryouts
Any player from North Carolina is welcome to participate in competitive tryouts scheduled in May at the Jordan Soccer Complex. During tryouts, players are evaluated by the Association’s Directors of Coaching and staff coaches. Tryouts typically consist of two 90-minute sessions on consecutive days. Players must attend both sessions.

How the Association Forms Teams
Existing teams may select new players. Returning players are not protected by their current team status and must regain the position on the team through the tryout process. New teams may be added each year providing enough qualified players are available to form a competitive team. Likewise, FSC’s Classic division may not form a team if an age group does not provide enough players to form a competitive team.

Seasons and Training
Classic-level teams under 15 years of age play a fall and spring season. If chosen for a team, the player is expected to play BOTH the fall and spring seasons. Players 15 years and older play one season: girls play in the fall and boys play in the spring. Two season teams play from July through May.  The fall season teams play from July through November and the spring season teams play January through May.  Most games are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. Teams play between 7-11 games per season. A team may also attend any number of tournaments during its season, both in and out of state.

Players are required to attend a minimum of two 90-minute team training sessions a week and are encouraged to attend an additional weekly skills session. Failure to attend team practices can result in loss of playing time. There is no guaranteed amount of playing time in Classic.

Size of Team Rosters
Teams for players 12 and under may carry up to 14 players per team. Teams for players 13 and older may carry up to 18 players. The final decision on the size of the roster is determined by the Director of Coaching. Players may be added to a roster at any time during the course of the fall or spring season as determined by the DOC.

Player Commitment
A player’s Commitment to Classic-level with FSC means that the player views training as a vital part of their individual development and that of their team. Once selected for a team, players are expected to fulfill their commitment to themselves, to their team and to FSC for the duration of the year.

Parental Commitment
A player’s commitment to Classic-level soccer with FSC can only be accomplished with Parental Commitment. Parental Commitment is essential to ensure that the Mission and Goals of FSC Classic division are met.  Parents are expected to fulfill their commitment to their son or daughter by:

  • Ensuring their preparation and attendance for all training and games
  • Providing positive reinforcement to all players, before, during, and after training sessions and games

Parents are expected to fulfill their commitment to FSC by:

  • Volunteering their time for FSC functions such as tournaments and ad hoc committees formed by FSC.
  • Supporting FSC’s fundraising efforts
  • Fulfilling financial obligations to FSC
  • Being positive representatives of FSC at all games and tournaments.
